Applications for the Bayard Rustin chapter of the National Honor Society are accepted starting September 1st of SENIOR YEAR.
** If you have a college deadline before the first week of September, you must e-mail LBryan@wcasd.net before the last week of school junior year, with a letter verifying the college deadline and you will be allowed to apply early **
APPLICANTS MUST KEEP TRACK OF COMMUNITY SERVICE HOURS AND PROVIDE CONTACT INFORMATION FOR THE ORGANIZATION(S) THAT THEY ACCUMULATED HOURS WITH. APPLICANTS MUST MEET THE FOLLOWING REQUIREMENTS:
1) Scholarship: A cumulative weighted GPA of 4.000 after the completion of the junior year (no exceptions).
2) Character: It should be noted that no candidate will be admitted to the Rustin chapter of the NHS who has documented academic dishonesty or Level II or Level III disciplinary referral at any time during high school.
If you have met the first two qualifications (above), two more qualifications (below) remain:
3) Service: 20 hours of community service must be documented prior to the application deadline. Service is defined as a volunteer activity completed since the first day of freshman year which does not directly benefit you or an activity of which you are a member. Court-ordered services may not be included.
4) Leadership: You must be able to volunteer your time during senior year for on-going leadership and service activities, including but not limited to: Rustin Peer Tutoring Program and Rustin New Student Mentor Program
IF YOU MEET ALL THE CRITERIA, PLEASE APPLY ON THE GOOGLE FORM SEPTEMBER 1. YOU WILL BE NOTIFIED IN WRITING OF YOUR ACCEPTANCE. THERE WILL BE AN INDUCTION CEREMONY IN SEPTEMBER SENIOR YEAR.
