"...if we teach today as we taught yesterday, we rob our children of tomorrow." - John Dewey
The West Chester Area School District’s 1:1 learning initiative is continuing – and growing! Students in grades 6 through 12 will now receive laptop computers to use in school and at home.
The Technology Department has been hard at work over the summer preparing the laptops for distribution during the first two weeks of school. This is also the window that student who did not elect to keep laptops over the summer will receive their laptops. Principals will share more information on the laptop distribution process once school starts.
Students will be receiving Dell laptop computers that will be preloaded with Microsoft Office Suite, which includes Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and OneNote. Each computer will also come with a protective case. I strongly recommend you review the WCASD 1:1 Handbook that will be available on the desktop of the computer, as it contains important information on the program.
With each laptop we offer a Device Protection Plan (DPP) that covers accidental damage or repairs beyond the scope of the manufacturer's warranty. The fee is $50.00 annually and, if you choose to participate in this protection plan, is due on or before Oct. 1. You can pay with a credit card online by clicking here to access the PayForIt System - be sure to select the Technology DPP option. You can also bring a check to the Technology Office in the Spellman Administration Building: 782 Springdale Drive, Exton, PA 19341. Click here to download the payment form. Bring the completed form with you, and be sure to include your child’s name and school in the memo line. Accidents do happen, so we encourage every family to participate. However, if the fee is a financial burden, please contact the Technology Office via email: email@example.com. We include additional details about this plan including the scope of coverage and limitations in the WCASD 1:1 Handbook.
If you have any questions after reading the WCASD 1:1 Handbook, please email: firstname.lastname@example.org.
