West Chester Area School District Board of Directors Rejects Revised Valley Forge Classical Academy Charter School Application

The West Chester Area School District (WCASD) Board of Directors formally announced their decision to reject the revised application submitted by Valley Forge Classical Academy Charter School (VFCACS) during the regular January board meeting on Monday, January 22, 2024.

The decision to deny the charter school’s revised application comes after a comprehensive review of the original and revised application materials provided by VFCACS. For the initial application the board considered presentations from both the applicant and the school district, as well as community comments and the district’s evaluation. The resubmitted application materials also underwent rigorous legal and district evaluation.

Karen Fleming, President of the WCASD Board of Directors, said, “We know that our community, our students, thrive on high quality educational experiences and programs. While we recognize the Valley Forge Classical Academy's enthusiasm for student enrichment, the revised application and district evaluation still demonstrate the proposed charter school’s inability to meet the caliber of education our community and our state expect.”

The board extends sincere gratitude to the administration for their dedicated time spent reviewing and evaluating both applications. The decision to deny the revised application was ultimately based on the determination that it still did not fully align with the educational needs of the community and established criteria in Pennsylvania and the district’s charter policy.

The WCASD remains steadfast in its commitment to fostering a diverse and enriching educational environment for all students. The denial of the revised charter applications follows a thorough deliberation and strict adherence to necessary protocols.
