The West Chester Area School District Board of Directors has approved Dr. Kalia Reynolds to be the next Assistant Superintendent of Schools. Dr. Reynolds replaces Dr. Bob Sokolowski, who takes over the helm for retiring Superintendent Dr. Jim Scanlon.

Dr. Reynolds has been the Director of K-12 Teaching and Learning in the Appoquinimink School District in Middletown, Delaware since 2018. Before that, she served as the Director of Elementary Teaching and Learning for four years in the Avon Grove School District in Chester County.

"Dr. Reynolds has a reputation of being a collaborative, dynamic educator with an outstanding work ethic,” said Superintendent Dr. Jim Scanlon. “She is a very experienced educator who brings a very student-centered philosophy to her work."

Dr. Reynolds has been a principal at several elementary schools in Delaware, leading West Park Place Elementary School in Newark to earn National Blue Ribbon status for increasing academic performance. She holds a doctorate in Educational Leadership from the University of Delaware, a Master’s Degree in Counseling Psychology from Temple University, and a Bachelor’s Degree in Special Education from the University of Maryland Eastern Shore.

“Dr. Reynolds is very knowledgeable in the areas of instruction, assessment, innovative educational programs, instructional technology, and school leadership,” said School Board President Chris McCune. “We are very pleased to welcome her to our team.”

The District reviewed applications from across the country and participated in several rounds of interviews with numerous highly qualified candidates in a search process facilitated by the Chester County Intermediate Unit.

Dr. Reynolds will begin her tenure in West Chester on or around August 30.
