WCASD Administrators & Students Feed the Homeless
A group of about 40 administrators the West Chester Area School District and Family Consumer Science (FCS) students from Henderson High School District recently teamed up to help feed the homeless in West Chester.
Administrators donated food items and money and served the meals at Safe Harbor on October 17. The group of principals, supervisors, and directors worked to prepare lasagna with the help of FCS teacher Catherine Logothetis and five of her students after school hours the day before.
"Last summer, our administration team completed a community service project at Marshall Square Park. We were brainstorming other ways to give back to the community, and the idea of making meals for Safe Harbor emerged," said Dr. Elisha Ozer, Henderson High School assistant principal, and event organizer.
Different groups throughout the WCASD have been volunteering with Safe Harbor for years. This was the first time the administration team supplied and served a meal. According to Dr. Ozer, the response from staff who wanted to help was overwhelming, and they plan to do it again in the future.
"We are our community. All good deeds, no matter how big or small, contribute to a better society. As a leadership team, it gives us an opportunity to build closer bonds which in turn will help our school community and ultimately the broader community."
