National Merit Semifinalist & Commended Students Announced
The National Merit Scholarship Corporation recently named 12 students from the West Chester Area School District (WCASD) National Merit Semifinalists for the 2018-19 school year.
The nationwide pool of Semifinalists, which represent less than one percent of high school seniors, scored the highest on the 2017 Preliminary SAT/National Merit Scholarship Qualifying Test (PSAT/NMSQT) in each state.
Students from East and Henderson High Schools were selected for this honor.
The East High School seniors who were named National Merit Semifinalists are Margaux Fleming, Sarah Guan, Ayush Kashyap, Brendan Merten, Claire Mobed, Abhijay Mugdigonda, and Sanketh Raju.
The Henderson High School seniors who were named National Merit Semifinalist are Daniel Collinson, Adam Fernandes, Ryan McKie, Ananya Muthukrishnan, and Bess Neiblum.
In addition, 23 students from all three WCASD high schools received commended status from the National Merit Scholarship Corporation.
The East High School seniors who received commended status are Scott Clifford, Brigit Foss, and Maya Moktan.
The Henderson High School seniors who received commended status are Jamil Alqatanani, Siddharth Chenrayan, Ryan Cieslukowski, Nitya Enjamuri, Erica Heller, Emma Jeffery, Ryan Kelly, Emily Krass, Jessica Liu, and Calvin Pash.
The Rustin High School seniors who received commended status are Nicholas Gentile, Magdalena Harnish, Anna Hedstrom, Dean Jones, Nathan Keller, Jacob Klanica, Patrick McDonough, Birju Patel, Katherine Tolsdorf, and Carolyn Zier.
Now in its 64th year, the National Merit Scholarship Program is an academic competition that provides scholarships to high school seniors. The 2019 National Merit Finalists will be announced in the spring and will join more than 323,000 other distinguished students from across the United States who have earned National Merit Scholarship Program recognition over the years.
