School Board 101

Information Session

The West Chester Area School District invites the community to attend a School Board 101 Information Session on Tuesday, January 21. School Board 101 will begin at 7:00 p.m. at the Spellman Administration Building (782 Springdale Dr. Exton, PA) and will feature discussions on board member candidacy, roles and responsibilities, and more.

Speakers will include Dr. David Christopher, WCASD Substitute Superintendent, and Christa Fazio, Director of Communications, Chester County Intermediate Unit.

There will be time at the end of the program for attendees to ask questions.

School Board Details

WCASD School Board Seats and Regions

The WCASD School Board is comprised of nine directors who serve four-year terms and are elected by region.

There are five school board seats up for election during the May 2023 primary:

Region 1 – one vacant seats (West Chester Borough, parts of West Goshen Twp.)

Region 2 – one vacant seats (East Goshen Twp., West Whiteland Twp.)

Region 3 – two vacant seat (East Bradford Twp., Thornbury Twp. – Chester County, Thornbury Twp. – Delaware County, Westtown Twp., parts of West Goshen Twp.)

School Board Eligibility

To be eligible to serve on the Board, a candidate must:

be at least 18 years of age prior to appointment;
a resident of the school district for at least one year prior to appointment;
must not have an office or position which is incompatible with the office of school director,
and be of good moral character and not otherwise ineligible to the office of school director.
