10-month Staff (20 and 22 pay Employee)

  1. The District runs its benefits payment schedule on a July 1 through following June 30 plan year.
  2. Benefits purchased by eligible employees end the last day of the month in which an employee worked in their regular position.
  3. If the employee resigns or retires part-way thru the school year, the district will calculate the amount of premiums paid versus the number of months covered.  The employee may owe an amount depending upon the point in the year their employment terminated.
  4. The District charges employees a cost sharing rate negotiated by a collective bargaining agreement or a salary/benefits guide. These cost sharing premiums are collected through 20 or 22 paychecks across the school year (depending upon employee group). The District does not collect benefit premiums over the summer.
  5. If an employee resigns over the summer months (July or August) and does not work any scheduled work days in their regular position in the upcoming school year beginning in August, that employee’s benefits are terminated back to June 30, the end of the month in which the employee last worked their regular position.  (Note: supplemental jobs worked over the summer do not qualify the employee for extended health benefits through July and/or August.)
  6. As soon as a resignation is accepted and processed by the District, a COBRA notice will be mailed to the home address, showing the end date of district benefits.  For those who benefits end on June 30, any claims previously processed with dates of service July 1 onward will be reprocessed by carrier/s. Former employees have up to 60 days from the date of COBRA notice to purchase COBRA benefits through the BenefitSolver website.
  7. As discussed in #3 above, those who do work scheduled work days in the new school year in August beginning with the first scheduled teacher/para day, and then resign in August or September, will be billed for their share of July and August premiums (at the active employee rate) as they will likely not have enough of a paycheck to collect the cost of benefits for July and August.
  8. All terms of benefits will be governed by the appropriate collective bargaining agreement or salary guide, depending on the employee group those documents govern.
