2025-28 Comprehensive Planning
As we shape WCASD’s future through our 2025–28 Comprehensive Plan, we’re partnering with students, families, staff, and neighbors to strengthen connections and support every learner. Guided by our mission, we’re building a vision to help all students achieve their personal best.

Portrait of a Graduate
We’ve created our Portrait of a Graduate by working hand in hand with students, families, staff, and community members to define the skills and mindsets every student needs to thrive. Now, we’re bringing it to life as a North Star that guides learning experiences from kindergarten through 12th grade.

High School Schedule Recommendation
Starting in 2027–28, we plan to introduce a Drop 2 Rotating Schedule to provide longer learning blocks, greater flexibility, and better access to support. This schedule supports deeper learning, balance, and enrichment, helping students thrive both academically and personally.

AI In Education
WCASD is thoughtfully exploring the role of artificial intelligence in our schools. We’re focused on using AI tools responsibly to support teaching and learning, while engaging staff, students, and families in shaping our approach. Learn more about our process, priorities, and plans for this emerging technology.

Elementary Departmentalization
Starting in the 2025–26 school year, three of our WCASD elementary schools will pilot a departmentalized model in Grades 4–5. Students will benefit from specialized instruction, increased engagement, and greater independence, better preparing them for middle school and beyond.

Standards-Based Report Card
Starting in 2025–26, standards-based grading will expand to Grades 3–5. This approach focuses on how well students are mastering key skills and concepts, giving families more accurate insights into academic progress. It builds on our current model already in place for students in kindergarten through second grade.
To thrive is more than just to survive—it’s about growing, flourishing, and reaching our fullest potential, together.
This vision is at the heart of our district initiatives, as we strive to create opportunities, embrace innovation, and build connections that empower students, staff, and our entire community to succeed.
