Dr. Cheryl Newton-Woods is the Interim Assistant Superintendent of Schools in the West Chester Area School District. She joined our district in March 2023 as the Interim Assistant Superintendent.

Dr. Newton-Woods began her career in education as a learning support teacher in the 1980s and has since held the roles of principal, assistant superintendent, superintendent, and adjunct professor. Her passion is and has always been to find ways to provide the best possible educational opportunities for all students.   

She knows firsthand how important it is to communicate and foster a culture of connection, collaboration, and transparency to ensure continued success for students, schools, and the community. In addition to 37-plus years in education, Dr. Newton-Woods has also enjoyed the roles of wife and mother to three grown children as well as grandmother to four grandchildren who she adores and spoils at every opportunity. 

Dr. Newton-Woods will focus on the duties of the assistant superintendent and direct support to our secondary schools with flexibility to identify areas of need or support moving forward. If you see her at a district or school event, do not hesitate to ask her about her dog, Shadow!
