• Title I Programming at Fern Hill

During the school year, the classroom teachers and the reading specialists periodically screen students using the Dynamic Indicators of Basic Early Literacy (DIBELS) and other reading assessments. These evaluations help our school determine which children could benefit from reading support beyond what the classroom teacher provides. In addition to the reading specialist that district funds provide, our school also receives funds to hire an additional reading specialist. This funding is provided by the federal government and is known as Title 1.

As the year progresses, if students need additional reading instruction, the reading specialist who is funded through Title 1 may be assigned to help your child. Although the funding for this position comes from the federal government, the Title 1 teacher is a West Chester Area School District employee and a certified Reading Specialist.
