School Safety Advocacy Committee

2022-23 School Year

In August 2022, Dr. Sokolowski brought back together the School Security Advocacy Team to discuss school safety. From the discussion in the two meetings held in August and October, the Public Safety website was created to highlight the professional and experienced WCASD Safety Team. The safety of our students, staff, and the community remains to be a top priority of the WCASD.

2018 Safety Advocacy Committee Report

West Chester Area School District
Safety Advocacy Committee Report
June 1, 2018

In response to the national epidemic of school shootings, the West Chester Area School District organized a Safety Advocacy Committee to review safety protocol for its schools. Safety has been a priority in the West Chester Area School District since 1999 when the first high profile school shooting took place in Columbine, Colorado when 13 people were killed by two high school students.

We have tried in West Chester to take a holistic approach to this very serious problem, addressing both prevention and mental health concerns. We continually review and update our safety procedures, training, and equipment, as well.
