2023-24 School Year Events

We invite the community to join us for a community gathering at the Spellman Education Center on Tuesday, June 27, 2023 at 6:30 PM. The purpose of the meeting will be to provide an update of the equity work, hear your thoughts, and discuss actions plans that will help us continue to meet our equity goals.

2023-24 School Year Events

Community Fair, October 21, 2023

The WCASD is hosting a fair to bring the community together for a fun afternoon of entertainment, food, music, and games! Additionally, we will be promoting our new community school partnership of mentors’ initiative. For planning purposes, we would appreciate if those planning to attend RSVP in advance of the event.

We hope you will join us on October 21, from 12:00 to 3:00 p.m. at Hillsdale Elementary School.

DELT Meetings
Our DELT members comprise of all administrators and equity advocates. The purpose of DELT is to set the tone that WCASD is inclusive and diverse and committed to fostering a culture of belonging, empathetic actions, and care. As leaders, the team operates with an equity lens that allows them to see all aspects of the organization. As they see, they are able to engage, and by engaging, they are able to address challenges while they equitably promote academic excellence and healthy social and emotional well-being of our school community.

DELT meeting are held bimonthly.

The Howard Group Meetings
At this time, there are 10 Howard Group Meetings scheduled on the following dates for the 2023-23 school year:
- September 21, 2023: Prioritizing Parent Engagement
- October 19, 2023: Race & Culture in the Classroom
- October 24, 2023: Uncovering the Story of Discipline Disparities for Students of Color
- November 16, 2023: Equity Training
- December 14, 2023: Creating a Trauma Sensitive Learning Environment
- January 18, 2023: Improving Schooling Conditions for LGBTQ+ Youth
- February 15, 2023: Improving Schooling Conditions for LGBTQ+ Youth
- March 14, 2024: Equity Training
- April 18, 2024: Uncovering the Story of Discipline Disparities for Students of Color
- April 25, 2024: Radical Care for Supporting Black Students
Some meetings are repeated to allow for different staff groups to attend.
