For Parents
ELEMENTARY SCHOOL SURVEYS
MIDDLE SCHOOL SURVEY
Strong parental support is essential
to a successful educational program, and the West
Chester Area School District is fortunate to have
just that. The district relies upon parents to
monitor the learning process, encourage children
in their studies, and communicate concerns to
the staff. Communication is facilitated by parent-
teacher
conferences, which supplement quarterly report
cards. In addition to these regularly scheduled
conferences, parents are welcome to contact their
school at any time with questions about their
child’s educational progress.
The district also seeks input from
parents on curricular and programmatic issues.
Parent
representation is included on district-wide
committees that review the curriculum, evaluate
existing programs, research new initiatives, and
study other specific issues that arise. Parents
are also always welcome to address the School
Board at its monthly meetings, for which input
from the public is built into the agenda.
Parents play a vital part as volunteers
in the schools as well. Working mainly through
each school’s Parent-Teacher Organization,
parents help out in libraries and classrooms,
on field trips, and at special functions. They
share their expertise with students at career
days and supplement the curriculum with presentations
on specialized subjects related to their areas
of professional study.
The PTOs, or Home and School Associations
as they are called in some schools, also sponsor
assemblies and organize school fairs. They are
actively involved in fundraising activities, which
support special projects that enhance the educational
environment for their children.
At monthly meetings of the district-wide
Parent Teacher Organization Council, parents are
able to convey concerns to the Central Administration.
At the same time, the Central Administration updates
parents and seeks their input on educational and
programmatic issues.
Through this active involvement
in many areas of the educational program, from
the individual child up to initiatives that impact
all children, parents are the district’s
true partners in carrying out its established
mission “to educate all children to achieve
their personal best.”
