B. Reed Henderson’s 2009 Girl Warriors Tennis team posted a solid 10-2 record in the league, and an even more consistent 18-4 overall winning record this season. The team won the Ches-Mont National Division Championship. The taste of winning won’t take a long time for the team to get used to; this is their 14th consecutive Ches-Mont league title. Bringing home championships has become second-nature, and perhaps a bit of an expectation, for the Girl Warrior tennis team members.
The Warriors, under the guidance of head coach Peter Sok and assistant coaches Linda Hendricks and Nancy Duca, made a successful run through the District 1 team tournament finishing third overall, edging out Radnor High School in the consolation round. Henderson’s district play began with a victory over Council Rock North High School, 4-1 in the first round. A 4-1 victory over perennial power Conestoga High School in the second round of District 1 team competition helped the Warriors secure a berth to the PIAA State team championship tournament.
This was the first time in school history, and also in the league history, that any Ches-Mont team qualified for State Championships! The Warriors ended their magical season with a tough loss to Upper St. Claire in semi-final match play, finishing third at the PIAA state tournament. Congratulations from everyone in the West Chester Area School District go to the champion tennis team on an outstanding season.
