Marching Warriors Win Championship

The Henderson High School Marching Band — the Marching Warriors — have captured the Atlantic Coast Championship in the Group 1 Division of the Tournament of Bands Association.

The Marching Warriors won the championship at Lackawanna County Stadium near Scranton on Sunday, Nov. 14, with a contemporary arrangement of music from Beethoven’s Ninth Symphony entitled “Ode to Joy for the New Millennium.”

The Atlantic Coast Championship includes bands from Pennsylvania, New Jersey, New York, Connecticut, Delaware, Maryland, Virginia, West Virginia, North Carolina, and Ohio. Group I is open to bands with 35 or fewer musicians. Over 90 bands competed in this group throughout the regular season with 28 of those qualifying to compete for the Atlantic Coast Championship.

Directed by Jim Morrison, the Marching Warriors have also won Atlantic Coast Championships in 1998, 2000, and 2002. There are 34 musicians in this year’s band and 11 the color guard members.
