Marching Warriors
Win Championship
The Henderson High School Marching Band — the
Marching Warriors — have captured the Atlantic Coast
Championship in the Group 1 Division of the Tournament of
Bands Association.
The Marching Warriors won the championship
at Lackawanna County Stadium near Scranton on Sunday, Nov.
14, with a contemporary arrangement of music from Beethoven’s
Ninth Symphony entitled “Ode to Joy for the New Millennium.”
The
Atlantic Coast Championship includes bands from Pennsylvania, New Jersey,
New York, Connecticut, Delaware, Maryland, Virginia, West
Virginia, North Carolina,
and Ohio. Group I is open to bands with 35 or fewer musicians. Over 90 bands
competed in this group throughout the regular season with 28 of those qualifying
to compete for the Atlantic Coast Championship.
Directed by Jim Morrison,
the Marching Warriors have also won Atlantic Coast Championships
in 1998, 2000, and 2002. There are 34 musicians in this
year’s
band and 11 the color guard members.
