Tax Relief Comes to Qualifying WCASD Homeowners
On May 1,
2008, the Pennsylvania Department of Education announced that
property tax relief from slot machine revenue would be
available to approved homesteads for the 2008-09 school year.
The West Chester Area School District received $3,592,837.
Qualifying
resident taxpayers living within the boundaries of the West
Chester Area School District have received tax relief on their
2008-09 property taxes in the amount of $141. For every
qualified Chester County homestead/homeowner in the district
with an average home value assessment of $189,950 would see a
net increase of $60 over last year’s tax bill, or 2%. For the
average WCASD homeowner in Delaware County with an assessed
value of $285,000 the tax increase after application of the
$141 tax relief is $164, or 4.8%. The property tax relief act
was established by the Pennsylvania Legislature in 2006 and
funded by slot machine revenues, was specifically designed to
reduce school districts’ tax burden on their local residents.
