Cafeteria Meal Prices Increase for New School Year

The West Chester Area School District’s Food Service Program has experienced a dramatic escalation of prices over the past year for various commodities used on a daily basis to prepare our school meals. Inflation has taken a huge toll on the financial stability of school food service operations all across the country.

The current market environment has forced the district to adjust the price of the school lunch at our elementary schools to $2.00, and at the middle and high schools to $2.25, for the 2008-09 school year. The WCASD has not increased the prices for paid lunches since the 2001-02 school year. Our A-La-Carte offerings will also undergo a modest price increase. A container of milk will now be priced at 60 cents, and Wawa beverages will cost $1.15. The pizza selection is now $2.25, while the price of the cold or hot sandwich choice will be $2.15. Students who are eligible to purchase the Reduced-Price Lunch will see no change in cost.

The District appreciates our parents’ and students’ understanding of this reaction to rapidly rising food costs.
