Stetson Students First in Knowledge Bowl

Six students from Stetson Middle School came home winners in the 20th anniversary regional Knowledge Bowl held at West Chester University.

Knowledge Bowl is an interdisciplinary academic competition that promotes and rewards academic achievement and excellence. Teams of four students(with up to four additional alternates) work cooperatively to solve written and oral questions related to all areas of standard middleschool curriculum. The competitions test students’ recall and problem solving abilities, critical thinking skills and teamwork skills. To prepare for competition, district Knowledge Bowl students met once a week throughout the school year. Leading up to the regional contest, practice meets were conducted with teams from the district’s other two middle schools – Fugett and Peirce (who also honored the district with a 2nd place medal in the 6th grade bracket of the competition).

Consisting of eighth graders Ryan Burke, Dhario Desousa, AmeyaNaik, Chris Panetta and seventh graders Andrew Strohmetz and Andrew Wang, the Stetson team competed against 29 other county teams in the 7th/8th grade bracket. Starting the competition with the highest written score of 53/60, the students held on to their first place standing throughout the oral competition.
