Middle School Instructor to Umpire PIAA Championship Softball Game

Our district has a unique accomplishment in sports to enjoy, as the Health and Physical Education Instructor at Peirce Middle School, Sue Ashinhurst, has been selected to umpire the AAA Level Championship game for PIAA Girl’s Softball at Shippensburg University on Friday, June 13th. The game between Milton and Susquehannock is scheduled to begin at noon and will be televised on the Pennsylvania Cable Network (PCN – please check your cable subscriber’s listings for the channel number.)

Sue will be at second base in the game which marks the first time she has ever been privileged to umpire in a championship contest. She has been umpiring since she was 17 years old and has worked baseball, men’s slow-pitch softball, and Little League World Series of Softball games (in 1980 and 1982 in Kalamazoo, Michigan.) This past March, she was selected to work the Rebel Games (NCAA) in Kissimmee, Florida, and in May was part of the crew that worked the Pennsylvania Athletic Conference (PAC) championships for NCAA play.

Sue’s enthusiasm regarding this selection was impossible to hide. “I am so excited about this event and the honor of umpiring at this level,” she said.

Congratulations, Sue, from Peirce Middle School and the WCASD.
