A brand new girls field hockey league is being formed to start this fall, and will operate under the direction of Jen O’Donnell, Head Coach at Henderson High School and a 2009 inductee into the NCAA Girls Lacrosse Hall of Fame.
The purpose of the West Chester Field Hockey League is to introduce the game of field hockey to girls in the West Chester Area School District at an early age. This league is designed to be fun and instructive for girls in grades 3 through 6 with the intent of teaching the fundamentals of field hockey. The hope is that this will also lead to greater participation in the field hockey programs at the secondary school level, as well as improve the overall quality of play among our student athletes.
This league is the first of its kind in the WCASD and only students attending school in our District are eligible to play.
The league, which runs from September 12th thru November 7th, 2010, provides twelve one-hour sessions comprised of six instructional practices and six games! The deadline for all applications is August 1st, 2010. Applications can be accessed via the link provided above this story.
All practices and games will take place at B. Reed Henderson High School on the Penndot Turf field, located on the other side of Montgomery Avenue from the school. We look forward introducing a new generation of young girls to the benefits they’ll gain from the competition and teamwork in this new field hockey program.
