Westtown-Thornbury Employee Awarded “Teacher of the Year”
Jim Davis, physical education teacher at Westtown-Thornbury Elementary School, has been awarded the Physical Education Teacher of the Year Award for southeastern Pennsylvania from the Pennsylvania State Association for Health Physical Education Recreation and Dance (PSAHPERD).
Teachers recognized with this award are individuals who go above and beyond while instructing students with innovative learning experiences that meet the needs of all students. The recipient of the award must have a minimum of five years experience, serve as a positive role model, participate in professional development opportunities, provide leadership service to the profession, and conduct a quality physical education program utilizing various teaching methodologies.
Davis started his career with the district in 1995 as an itinerant Physical Education teacher, traveling to as many as seven elementary schools each week. “While the schedule did offer many challenges, it was a tremendous blessing for it exposed me to all of the wonderful styles, programs, ideas and philosophies of my more experienced colleagues. It was an invaluable initiation into the field and I was able to learn a great deal in a short amount of time,” stated Davis.
The physical education teacher at Westtown-Thornbury since 2000, Davis remarked, “The children here are a dream to be able to work with every day. They are a joy to teach! This really is an award for Westtown-Thornbury more than anything.”
