COMCAST TO BRING THE C-SPAN CIVICS BUS TO
THE WCASD ON ITS “100 DAYS, 100 SCHOOLS” TOUR
Bus to offer tours as it visits 100 schools in 100 days across the country

WASHINGTON, D.C. - April 16, 2009 – The C-SPAN Civics Bus is on the road on its new “100 Days, 100 Schools” tour. The 45-foot mobile production studio and demonstration center will travel to Bayard Rustin High School, followed by East High School and B. Reed Henderson High School. The bus visit is made possible and brought to the West Chester Area School District by Comcast.

“For those who value what well-informed citizens can mean to our democratic form of government, as Thomas Jefferson once predicted would be the case, there is no better conduit for our students to explore than the model presented by C-SPAN,” said Rob Partridge, Communications Director for the WCASD. “Comcast has teamed up with C-SPAN to make this bus visit possible, highlighting the importance of seeing our government in action on a daily basis, as well as providing all of us a link to newsmakers, political figures and authors who are so important to our future,” Partridge concluded.

“We are thrilled to partner with C-SPAN to bring the civics bus tour to the West Chester Area School District locations,” said Kevin Broadburst, director of government affairs at Comcast. “We are committed to enriching the communities we serve and providing cutting-edge programming – this state-of-the-art, interactive tour truly exemplifies both of those commitments.”

Students, teachers and other visitors will have the chance to tour the bus during the visit and learn about the many resources C-SPAN offers, including the network’s education website, C-SPAN Classroom (www.c-spanclassroom.org), a free membership service for educators with downloadable video clips; the C-SPAN Video library (www.c-spanarchives.org); and C-SPAN’s television coverage of the new administration.

On Friday morning, April 17th, from 9AM-10AM, 12 students drawn from all three of the district high schools will participate in a live-feed remote broadcast of the C-SPAN program “Washington Journal.” Check your local listings for the cable channel in your area.
