Henderson Is First
in Various Mathematics Contests
Teams of talented mathematics
from Henderson High School have placed first in competitions
at Lehigh and
Millersville Universities.
A total of 187 students from
26 schools participated in the Lehigh contest. Henderson’s
Ben Bellis, Jason Bland, Jarey Wang and Yiwen Zhu placed first for all grade
levels as team. In individual competition, Bland placed first in grade 11
and second among all students, while Wang placed second in
grade 10.
Katharine Luginbuhl and Peter Jin joined
Bellis and Bland in team competition
at Millersville, where Henderson again placed first among all grade levels.
Bland placed first in individual competition at this event. A total of
128 students
from 32 schools participated.
The Lehigh competition involved a written
test with team trophies determined by adding up the individual
scores of team members. The Millersville event
was similar to that but also included a score from a written team round.
In
addition, in separate written competition, Bland and
Wang qualified to participate in the highly competitive
national
Mathematical Olympiad.
They
are among only
12 students across the state to achieve this honor.
