Twelve district seniors have been named finalists in the 2008 National Merit Scholarship Program – five from Rustin, four from Henderson, and three from East. These students were among the approximately 15,000 top scoring students nationwide in the Preliminary Scholastic Assessment Test/National Merit Scholarship Qualifying Test (PSAT/NMSQT), which they took as juniors last year.
In order to become finalists in this prestigious program, students are required to back up their PSAT/NMSQT scores with high scores in the Scholastic Assessment Tests (SATs), have a record of consistently high academic performance in all courses taken in grades nine through twelve, be fully endorsed for finalist standing by their high school principal, and be planning to enroll in college full time in the fall.
