Special Education
The West Chester Area School District provides
special education and related services to appropriate resident
children with disabilities who are aged three through 21.
Under the federal Individuals with Disabilities Education
Act, or “IDEA,” school aged children qualify
for special education and related services if they have one
or more of the following disabilities and as a result need
such services:
- mental retardation
- hearing impairments
- speech or language impairments
- visual
impairments
- emotional disturbance
- orthopedic
impairments or physical disabilities
- autism, including
pervasive
developmental disorders
- traumatic brain
injury
- other health impairment
- specific learning disabilities
- deaf-blindness
- deafness
- multiple
disability
Children
aged three through the age of admission
to kindergarten are eligible
for early intervention programming
if they have developmental delays and are in need of
special education and related
services.
