The K-12 years are important growing and learning
years for children. They are the formal process of education,
but it is important to remember that you and your child started
the educational process long before the first day of school.
The WCASD curriculums are prepared by district staff and
are based on state and national standard program of studies.
While each school has its individual personality, the uniform
curriculum ensures equal academic exposure, opportunities,
and expectations for all children as they progress through
their school years.
Please click on a link in the menu to the left to learn
more about each individual area of learning. We hope this
information will be only the beginning of your knowledge
about West Chester Area School District schools. Our professional
staff is justifiably proud of the quality of education provided.
We know, however, the highest educational quality exists
in schools where parents are involved. Your participation
has positive effects on parent-teacher relationships and
student achievement.
We in the West Chester Area School District welcome your
involvement. We need your support for those things we do
well and your constructive challenge when we need to improve.
Together we can provide the highest quality education for
all children.
New Standards-Based
Report Card
The West Chester Area School
District implemented a new K-2 report card that accurately
reflects students’ progress towards the State Standards. A
committee of parents, teachers and administrators developed
the document. Another committee is now working on a 3-5 standards-based
report card to be introduced in 2007.
The Pennsylvania Department of Education established academic
standards in January 1999. These standards define what
students should know in all subject areas in every grade
level. These standards can be found on the Pennsylvania
Department of Education website http://www.pde.state.pa.us/
The new student report is standards
based and will communicate achievement of learning related
behaviors and
progress toward the Pennsylvania State Standards. The 3-5
report will be made available in draft form for general review
by parents,
teachers, and administrators during the 2006– 2007
school year.
