Our Business instruction provides hands-on training with various technologies that excites, motivates, and enhances the learning experience.

BUSINESS / MARKETING / INFORMATION TECHNOLOGY –
HIGH SCHOOL COURSES

INTRODUCTION TO BUSINESS & MARKETING (9, 10) 1 CREDIT
Students will achieve a basic understanding of business, marketing, finance, economics, and careers. Students will learn their role as a business professional, consumer and citizen in the free enterprise system, and will explore a broad scope of business related careers. The curriculum is designed to develop attitudes and basic skills that lead to successful employment. Individual exploration, as well as group projects, will be used to define career options, develop employment skills, learn how to find employment, manage business and marketing projects, and understand finances. Operations of the school store and activities in DECA (an association of marketing students) will be used to develop leadership abilities.

MARKETING HONORS (10, 11, 12) 1 CREDIT
This course is designed to develop an understanding of marketing processes and the specific skills in selling, advertising, display, business record keeping, merchandising and human relations. Included are basic economics, marketing processes, consumer motivation, techniques of selling, business systems, customer services, business communication, interpersonal relationships and sales promotion. Operation of the school store and activities in the DECA (an association of marketing students) chapter will be used to develop leadership abilities.

SPORTS & ENTERTAINMENT MARKETING (9, 10, 11, 12) .5 CREDIT / SEMESTER COURSE
Through project-based research and case studies, students will explore the multi-billion dollar sports and entertainment industries. Topics include economics, marketing, brands, image, product development, pricing, branding, licensing, research, promotion, and careers.

INTERNATIONAL BUSINESS (9, 10, 11, 12) .5 CREDIT / SEMESTER COURSE
Through project-based research and case studies, students will explore the expanding global economy. Topics include trade, labor and capital mobility, multi-national corporations, currency and exchange rates, developed and developing countries, and the evolving world economy.

BUSINESS MANAGEMENT HONORS/ACADEMIC (11, 12) 1 CREDIT
The content of this course, which includes foundation of business management, business operations and management techniques, economics of distribution, human relations, business ethics and law, forms of business ownership and business finance, provide a business background for students who are planning to major in business at the college level, or for students who are planning a business career. The content is delivered through units that focus on the fields of sports and entertainment, hospitality and tourism, retail and fashion, and e-commerce. Management of the school store and activities in DECA (an association of the marketing students) will be used to develop business and leadership skills. To receive honors credit, students must complete a DECA competition project.

ENTREPRENEURSHIP HONORS/ACADEMIC (12) 1 CREDIT
This course is designed for seniors who have a true desire to explore the American dream of owning their own business. This course will provide an overview of what is required to open a business. Students will be given the opportunity to determine their potential as an entrepreneur. Curriculum will include developing a business plan, obtaining technical assistance, planning the market strategy, locating the business, financing the business, dealing with legal issues and government regulations, as well as the total management of the business. Operation of the school store and activities in DECA, an association of marketing students, will be used to develop leadership abilities. To receive honors credit, a student must complete a DECA competition project.

INTERNSHIP (12) 1 OR 2 CREDITS
The Internship Program will combine school-based learning and on-the-job business instruction into a structured learning sequence. School and workplace learning will be coordinated and integrated. Students must be enrolled in a business or marketing course and will be released to work for 1 or 2 periods as appropriate.
Prerequisite: At least one Business/Marketing credit.
College credit may be available.

TECHNOLOGY ESSENTIALS (9, 10, 11, 12) 1 CREDIT
Technology skills of the 21st Century needed to succeed in high school and beyond are the focus of this course. Content includes mastery of the keyboard, creating digitally generated documentation using Word, Excel, and PowerPoint, an exploration of distance learning with Moodle, evaluating and developing web sites, investigating Outlook, refining Internet searches, Internet etiquette and Internet safety.
College credit may be available.

MICROCOMPUTER APPLICATIONS HONORS (10, 11, 12) 1 CREDIT
This course will teach computer applications through Microsoft Office 2007 using Word, Excel, Access and PowerPoint. Content includes how to create media-rich slide show presentations, spreadsheets and charting devices, database configuration and manipulation, as well as word processing activities including web pages, resume writing and application letters. This course prepares students for the Microsoft Office Specialist (MOS) certification. Honors credit will be given to students who pass at least two MOS practice exams. Two certification exam vouchers will be provided to students taking the honors-level class for college credit.
College credit may be available.

ACCOUNTING 1 HONORS (10, 11, 12) 1 CREDIT
Through explanations, demonstrations and practice, the student will record and interpret basic financial business records based on accepted accounting principles. The complete accounting cycle is taught covering a service business and a merchandising business. Attention is focused on payroll accounting. After discussing the theory, the accounting work will be done on the computer using business simulations.

ACCOUNTING 2 HONORS (11, 12) 1 CREDIT
Accounting 2 is an advanced course offering a higher proficiency in accounting. Students will learn how to complete the accounting cycle for partnerships and corporations. Most problems will be solved using automated accounting software that emulates business practices. Throughout the year, students will complete projects to link classroom learning with the business world. Each project will have components that may be used for a graduation project.

FINANCIAL FITNESS: A GUIDE TO PERSONAL FINANCE (9,10, 11, 12) 1 CREDIT
Given today’s economic climate, students, now more than ever, should consider carefully their future in terms of career choice, education and financial stability. Curriculum is driven by Federal and State initiatives to develop necessary financial awareness in today’s economic markets. An individual career portfolio based on interest inventories and aptitude tests, career exploration, resume building, and post secondary planning will be developed. This career portfolio is considered essential to defining and directing students’ individual career objectives. Economic analysis of our monetary system and financial literacy concepts including goals and decision-making, income, money management, spending and credit, savings and investing, budgeting and purchasing goods and services, and retirement planning will be provided. Students will also have the opportunity to intern with the Keystone Federal Credit Union branch located in our cafeteria. A must for all.

PROGRAMMING FOR THE WEB (9, 10, 11, 12) 1 CREDIT
Students will learn to write code using some of the most popular languages to create web sites, and to program using HTML, the mother tongue of the web. Not only will students create web pages using Dynamic HTML (interactivity), but they will also create animations using JavaScripting. Extensive use of the internet, as well as multimedia, is emphasized. Students are encouraged to develop multidisciplinary projects.
