It is the goal of the Instructional Technology
Department to supply our educators with real-world comprehensive
staff developments.
Staff Development is viewed as a learning
process. It cannot be accomplished in one individual workshop,
but rather
multiple learning interactions that progress in difficulty
and complexity as mastery is accomplished.
Using Apple's
Classrooms of Tomorrow research as a framework for the
district's staff development, each workshop is
categorized. ACOT identifies FIVE stages which educators
progress through
as they integrate technology into the curriculum.
The
district has focused on implementing the Intel® Teach
to the Future Program. This program helps both experienced
teachers and new teachers integrate technology into
instruction to develop students' higher-level thinking
skills and
enhance learning. Participating teachers receive extensive
instruction
and resources to promote effective technology use in
the classroom. Teachers learn from other teachers how,
when, and where to incorporate technology tools and resources
into
their lesson
plans. In addition, they experience new approaches
to create assessment tools and align lessons with educational
learning
goals and standards. The program incorporates use
of the Internet, Web page design, and student projects
as
vehicles
to powerful learning.
WCASD teachers have participated
