The WCASD is located in the heart of Chester County, one of the fastest growing and most prosperous areas of Pennsylvania. In 2008 Forbes.com, part of the Forbes Magazine publishing group, named Chester County one of the ten best places to raise a family in the United States. We proudly employ a staff of over 1400 professional and support personnel to serve nearly 12,000 high-achieving students, attending our three high schools, three middle schools, and ten elementary schools. The nine-member School Board works collaboratively with the staff to ensure the best possible educational program.

Our elementary schools create a solid foundation of learning and equip our students with essential core competencies in reading, writing and mathematics and a beginning understanding and appreciation of science, social studies, health, art, music and physical education. The use of computers has grown dramatically in our elementary schools over the past five years. Children are nurtured and guided throughout their elementary years.

At the middle school level, our teachers support our students through the rapidly changing developmental period of early adolescence. Supporting the students emotionally, socially, and academically while increasing student responsibility and accountability for learning along the way fits into our mission. Our middle school educators work to prepare students to successfully transition to the academic and extracurricular opportunities and challenges offered at our high schools.

A comprehensive high school program reflects the diversity of interests and talents among the student body while building on the foundation laid in middle and elementary schools. College-bound students enroll in Advanced Placement courses and in academic, honors and seminar-level classes depending upon ability and commitment to study. Students also study business, marketing education, family and consumer sciences, music and art. A wide range of extracurricular clubs and activities round out their education.

Our high school students engage in their studies and activities in two fully renovated buildings on expansive campuses – West Chester East and B. Reed Henderson High Schools – and a brand new third high school, Bayard Rustin High School. An extensive multi-year construction project that concluded in 2007 provided our students with these three state-of-the-art facilities. The project reflected a long-standing commitment to our community and taxpayers to ensure our facilities keep pace with changing educational needs.

To those of you who may be considering moving to the Greater West Chester Community and who consider the choice of a school district an important criterion in your decision-making, we hope our entire website serves as a resource to you. Additionally, we encourage you to call one of our schools and arrange a visit through the school principal or one of our guidance counselors. They will be happy to meet with you, provide additional information and answer your questions.

If you already live in our community and either do not have children who have reached school age or have children who attend a private, parochial, or home school program, we also invite you to use our website to inform your decision-making regarding the many educational choices available. You, too, may call any of our schools and arrange a visit with the principal or one of our guidance counselors.

For families whose children already attend our schools, we hope the website serves as an additional communication and information resource which supplements the ongoing communications you receive from your child’s school. By clicking on the “schools” bar you will be able to go to each school’s specific website for more school specific information.

We are most proud of the education our students receive. There is a strong sense of community pride in the awards our students earn every year in all areas of school life. Community support for our schools is also strong and is evident in the many partnerships we enjoy with parents, senior citizens, and the business community.

In everything we do, our highest priority is always the students. We invite you to visit our schools and witness first-hand our students and staff engaged in the exciting process of growing and learning.
